The 3-Ortho is a boss that was added on December 10, 2019. Currently, it is on the TESTBED bosses branch, mainly due to the fact of how blatantly OP it is.
Design
3-Ortho has an orange square base with an auto-Assassin turret in each corner. On the bottom side of its base, 3-Ortho has a triangular segment with two auto-turrets on sides. On the right side of its base, 3-Ortho has a triangular segment which has three auto-turrets in each corner of it. On the top side of this triangular segment, 3-Ortho has a quadral segment with a spawner in front and a triangular segment on its left side. The triangular segment on the left side has a Minigun auto-turret on top. The very right triangular segment has two same attached segments but reversed horizontally and the first quadral segment has a large Pounder auto-turret on top. This is only one part of 3-Ortho, and the other part is mirrored and vertically reversed, attached to the left side of its base.
Technical
3-Ortho has a medium health and movement speed, and always spins. Its pounder turrets have decent damage, high speed, and penetration. Basic turrets have a high rate of fire, medium damage, and penetration. Minigun auto-turrets have nearly the same stats, but a far high rate of fire. Other auto-turrets are weaker, have less damage, speed, and health. 3-Ortho also can spawn up to 24 Flank Machines minions, and respawn four of them each second. Minions have a high speed and decent health, as well as high penetration, rate of fire, and damage.
Spawning
Currently does not spawn.
Countering
3-Ortho has high firepower and penetration not counting the minions and is even strong without minions. Minions are unquestionably the very thing which makes 3-Ortho so blatantly overpowered, as they respawn very fast, have high health, and can shred any tank in a matter of seconds. Minions will outflank in any circumstances, so fighting them is not an option. Whenever you see the minions or the boss itself, you have only one viable option - RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.
But even running away is a major challenge, since minions will follow you half-way the map, and are likely faster than any tank. Since they come in numbers of 24, you will not be able to fight them all at once. Most Propeller branch tanks will face little problems in escaping 3-Ortho, but other tanks are usually screwed. If more than eight minions locked on you, you have little to no chances to survive. In every other case, you should try to move in a left-right pattern, line minions up, and slowly kill them one by one, until you get away. If you are a tank with lower danger value, finding any other player increases your chances to survive.
Killing 3-Ortho is a major challenge, far harder than killing any normal boss or even most TESTBED bosses, even harder than killing Tetraplex. The Boss has medium health, but its minions will usually shred anything that comes in their field of view. Firstly, never fight in solo, small groups, or even somewhat small teams - you will die. Try to bring at least seven more players with you, which will be divided into two groups - defensive and offensive. Each group should have players from the same team, or else you stand little chances. Firstly, get at least five Hexa Blasters with you, and one Kukri with them. Kukri will block bullets of 3-Ortho itself, while hexa blasters will distract minions. All blasters and kukri should keep themselves close to each other so that they will generate a strong wall of bullets. Hexa Builders and a Cathedral can also work for this task well. Secondly, get at least two attacking players, ideally Twinceptionists or Splitters. They should come from the opposite side of 3-Ortho, and start dealing heavy damage. Since the boss has medium health, it will fall fast if everything is pulled off correctly. Incognito is useless without distracting players, as minions will protect the boss from all sides.
Trivia
- The shape is a net of the triangular orthobicupola.
- This is where the name came from.
